Casinos, naturally, draw tourists to Nevada. In particular, to Las Vegas. From penny slots to high stakes table games in private salons, you'll find it Las Vegas. But there's much more to Las Vegas than gambling. Las Vegas is also surprisingly family-friendly. In an attempt to appeal to kids, the hotels have spent millions developing technically sophisticated indoor amusement rides like the Race for Atlantis. Other sites to see include the choreographed fountains at the Bellagio, the Mandalay Bay Shark Reef, the Stratosphere, and the Liberace Museum. Or, escape the hustle and bustle of the Las Vegas Strip with a relaxing gondola ride at the Venetian. Reno, another gambling and resort town, is located in the western part of the state near the California border.
There are first-rate hotels, golf courses and casinos to rival its southern counterpart and, like Las Vegas, Reno has become a popular destination for families. Galena Creek Park offers nature trails that even young children can navigate, plus organized educational events for families. Outdoor enthusiasts should head to Lake Tahoe for hiking, biking, windsurfing, swimming, fishing, golfing, and skiing. At 6,225 feet above sea level, Tahoe is the highest alpine lake in the United States. Located between California and Nevada, different sides of the lake tend to attract different types of visitors. The California side draws families and outdoor enthusiasts while the Nevada side atttracts those looking for big name entertainment and casinos.
